On Thursday, December 13, 2018 Mr.Sakda Witthayasirikul, Vice Governor of Satun Province presided over the opening ceremony. Mr.Narongrit Thungprue, The director of Satun UGGp reported the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding to the president of the ceremony. And Mr.Pornchai Pechpimpun, said the welcome speech. The participants were as follows; Langkawi Development Authority, Langkawi UGGp, delegates from the Department of Mineral Resources, head of government agencies in Satun, communities and media.
Upon signing of this Agreement, LUGGp and SUGGp are expressing their interest to indulge themselves into the following collaborative activities:
1 To communicate and exchange good ideas and experiences of geoheritage protection, geosciences popularization and local geotourism development.
2 To co-operate in terms of culture and tourism, boosting the sustainable development of two geoparks.
3 To exchange of ideas and information by using internet and other tools to share experiences on Geopark development and promotion.
4 To plan in organizing common educational programs e.g. communication program between school students of each Geoparks.
5 To plan in organizing common promotional programs e.g. promotion of geotourism in partner Geoparks websites or publications, promotion of joint research activities etc.
LUGGp and SUGGp uplifting the utmost important requirement promoted by UNESCO Global Geoparks by recognizing the collaboration and agree to spur cooperative relationship between the two parties. This Sistership of Geoparks Agreement, therefore, aims to promote international cooperation and experience exchanges of the two parties on a reciprocal basis of respect for the independence and equal status of each Geopark.
