Mani or Maniq is original groups of native people as the only Nigrito in Thailand as gathering society about 20-30 individuals a group. It is widely distributed in the jungles of southern Thailand in the areas of Phuttalung, Satun and Yala provinces and have been called “Ngo Pa” by general Thai people. Other names for them are different from place to place such as Sa Gai, Se Mang, Kha Nang, Orang Assalee etc. Physical anthropological characters, habit, intelligence and lifestyle of the Mani are similar to those the negroids from Africa. They are characterized by curly hair, dark skin, wide flat nose, thick rips, large teeth, small ears, flat hip, large fingers and about 140-150 centimeters tall. The Mani is jovial, music and song lover, fear of strangers, easy smile and talk openly. They hates disdain and love honestly and guileless. The Mani from different groups are usually kept in connections and respected as their relatives. There are still many groups of Mani in Khao Bun Thad and San Kala Khiri mountains in the south of Thailand. They are still wandering in the forests of Thungwa, Manang and La-ngu districts of Satun Province.
The Mani have inherited their wisdoms from their ancestors up to nowadays and some wisdoms have been harmonized between the original and modern knowledge. Their wisdoms are from their real nature life capable to use tools and medical herbs. Their believe, traditions and ceremonies help to strengthen their stabilized society under the much changes of the outside modern societies.
